How to Get More Traffic From Facebook

The old idea of "Build it and they will come." stopped working once the internet had thousands of new websites everyday. It no longer works where just posting a new website is seen by anyone, unless you do some kind of marketing to it.

One of the easiest ways to begin marketing your business or new website is to use social media, specifically Facebook. Assuming you are part of the 950 million people who already have an account on Facebook, we won't cover that, what we will cover is finding related fan pages and groups to post to others about your website.

First, start looking for related fan pages, these are pages by related businesses that have a presence on Facebook. In the search at the top of your Facebook newsfeed put in the keyword that most closely matches what your business is about. Ex: Dog training- enter dog training, dog grooming, dog rescue, animal rescue, or pitbull to begin seeing results. Ideally click on the link at the bottom of the pop up that says "See more results".

You should now see a long list of results, but on the left side of the page, click to only see Pages. Begin visiting one at a time, by right clicking each fan page link and opening in a new tab. Visit them, like them, and when you find very active pages with several thousand likes, bookmark it.

After you have found 10 active pages (regular posting is the most indicative of this) and they are all bookmarked, start leaving comments on those pages.

For a good three days return to the pages and interact with the other visitors, turning comments into conversations, responding to posts by others, and being a valued member of the community.

On the fourth day, or earlier if the opportunity presents itself, share your website link on each of the pages, and you should see some traffic start coming in. The more you return and interact, the more traffic you will see. Do be careful in how you share your link, your best bet is to share a specific link, in the follow kind of post:

"I just wrote a blog post on How to train your dog not to jump on people. I thought you might be interested." Then post the link.

Get even more traffic from Facebook

Just like you searched for fan pages, search for Groups, join them and do the same thing you did with the fan pages, interacting and then sharing your link. Discuss posting your link with the admin of the group and perhaps they will send more traffic to your site. Start your own fan page and bring the traffic to your fan page instead of your site, this way, you will show in their newsfeed and when you do, you can bring them to your site more often. Run an ad for your website on Facebook, this isn't free, but can be beneficial and faster than participating in community first. Look for more high traffic pages in your niche and interact on those as well, this way more people will discover you, and visit your website.

When using social media to get free traffic to your website, you want to have time to invest in building relationships and not just spamming your link.

You should also have a strategy in mind, where you can capture the visitor to get them to come back. Do this with an autoresponder, or at the very least, getting them to like your own fan page.
